"Hello World,"

    I am an English Education student attending Western Illinois University (WIU) on the path to becoming a high school English teacher. I want to provide a comfortable environment for young adults to explore themselves and reflect through reading and writing. My goal in teaching is to give students more opportunities to learn for themselves rather than anyone else. While I do enjoy reading, I myself am an extremely slow reader and find most full-length novels challenging to get through. I prefer comic books and other written literature that is dark, gritty, and showcases real problems with humanity. Taking inspiration from shows like "The Walking Dead" and my own experiences with the worst home lives, my (and others') miserable experience in the military, I would love to eventually finish and publish my book Black Blood. I really enjoy the idea of writing a zombie book where the people making the hardest decisions makes them the real monsters. Writing is a beautiful tool that lets us communicate, share our own beliefs and experiences, and functions as an introspective playground.

 Kids and Their Damn Phones     For this inquiry project, I wanted to explore the correlation between digital technology and its affect on linguistics: syntax, slang, verbal and nonverbal communication, and so on. I was inspired while observing several high school English classes recently. High school has changed so much since I graduated in 2018 and after the COVID-19 pandemic when schools went online, I had to see for myself what those changes were to prepare myself for teaching. Digital Technology and Linguistics Part 2

 The New, Digital Classroom   Change is Inevitable     Digital technology is evolving at such a rapid rate, that it would be a disservice to not teach students about it. One article I found, published in 2015, surveyed 12 language teachers and 10 4th-grade students on their opinions of technology in the classroom. Every 4th-grade student being surveyed had computers, tablets, phones, Fakebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts. They are well-equated with digital media and devices with Internet access. This article claims that, "children can improve their language and cultural awareness and can be faster through intercultural communication" ( øltera *, 2015). Nidhogg (Níðhöggr)

 Nidhogg ( Níðhöggr )     God of War  Ragnarök offers players a chance to ally with (and more importantly fight) some of the most important gods and creatures in Norse mythology. Although getting killed by Thor just to have him bring you back to life because he's not done playing is pretty amazing, the fight with Nidhogg (need-hog) really takes the cake.     Until this boss-fight, I had never heard of this extremely important creature in Norse mythology. Nidhogg is a dragon who gnaws at the roots of Yggrasil (The World Tree), which keeps the Nine Realms intact. By chewing its roots, Nidhogg is instilling chaos and attempting to destroy the cosmos. To counteract him, an eagle sits atop The World Tree while the squirrel Ratatoskr protects the balance.     The video game makes this creature even more formidable.
